Leadership skills and teamwork
You will be part of a team that carries out union tasks, in which it is vital to coordinate and delegate responsibilities. It is also necessary to conduct effective analysis, form conclusions and prioritize action.
How are roles assigned?
You will be called to an inaugural board meeting, where responsibilities and tasks are designated by the board. All participants are encouraged to engage by sharing their interests and knowledge.
The board chairman acts as the overall coordinator, ensuring effective teamwork and developing members' skills.
Responsibilities of the local union board
- Driving, leading and developing union work.
- Engaging with representatives and employers.
- Driving, coordinating and monitoring recruitment and member care.
- Offering advice and support to members and contact representatives.
- Negotiating on behalf of members.
- Encouraging engagement in membership meetings and other activities.
- Providing information.
- Investigating members’ needs and addressing the issues raised.
- Planning activities and allocating responsibilities.
- Conduct introduction with newly elected representatives.
- Training and supporting contact representatives and local union board members.
- Assigning tasks to representatives, within their company and the union.
- Organizing and chairing annual meetings.
- Participating in the salary negotiation process/salary negotiations.
- Negotiating local agreements.
- Ensuring compliance with collective bargaining and other agreements.
- Representing members and collaborating with employers.
- Participating in working environment, equality and skill development issues.
- Ensuring all contact and work environment representative posts are filled.
- Collaborating with the nomination committee.
If you, as a local union board member, are also a work environment representative, you represent all employees in work environment issues.
